Karen McClure

Karen has spent a lifetime exploring the world through the lens of a camera, traveling throughout the United States and abroad to create images that capture what intrigues, moves, and surprises her. Working primarily with Kodak film, she combines a spirit of curiosity with a deep appreciation for place, history, and the unexpected moments that often reveal themselves to her as she travels. 
 
A dedicated practitioner of traditional analog photography, Karen personally oversees every stage of the photographic process. From capturing the image in the field to handcrafting prints in her darkroom, each photograph is individually produced with care and attention. 
 
‘The Art of Wandering” is her studio name and the philosophy behind her art.  Taking road trips through the US and tours through Europe and Africa, she captures subjects ranging from ancient lava fields and sweeping sand dunes to solitary trees and, her favorite, the landscapes of Route 66.  Throughout her work, themes of history, memory, personal experience, and humor emerge, inviting viewers to discover their own connections within each image. 
 
Karen studies photography at the Glassell School of Art where she refined her artistic vision and technical expertise. Her work has been published in “Houston. It's Worth It.” and selected for juried exhibitions including FotoFest and Kinder Morgan's Texture and Creatures exhibitions. Her photographs have also been exhibited and collected through the Downtown Art Gallery in Brenham, Texas. 
 
After relocating to Burton, Texas, Karen established a dedicated darkroom and studio, creating the space to fully pursue her artistic practice, and partner in opening 2tiny gallery in downtown Brenham, Texas.   Today she embraces a life centered on art, exploration, and the enduring magic of photography.
