Shirley Beyer
Award-winning abstract expressionist Shirley Beyer creates intuitive, emotionally resonant paintings inspired by the natural world and the transformative experiences of travel. Working primarily in acrylic, collage, and mixed media, she explores the interplay of color, light, and texture to evoke landscapes of memory and feeling rather than literal representations.
Before dedicating herself fully to her artistic practice, Beyer enjoyed a 26-year career as a professional psychotherapist, an experience that deepened her appreciation for the emotional and transformative aspects of the human experience.
She studied at the Glassell School of Art, the Art League of Houston, and with numerous professional artists throughout the United States. Beyer's work has been exhibited in galleries and juried exhibitions across Texas, including the Houston Club, Fort Bend History Museum, Cloisters Gallery, POST Houston, Primal Gallery, the Cultural Activities Center in Temple, and Winter Street Studios, where she maintains a studio. She has served on the board of Women in the Visual and Literary Arts (WiVLA) and in a leadership role with the Houston Visual Artist Network. She is also a member of the Houston Watercolor Society, Houston Area Art Tribe, and Houston Art Society.
